New Zealand Diploma in Creativity

(NZQA Level 5) 120 credits

The goal of the Diploma in Creativity (Level 5) programme is to acquire a range of skills in creativity, including the ability to expand original ideas in a range of styles and media, to provide an understanding of creative process and practice.

You will focus on your areas of interest and, by working with your core drivers, expand your transferable skills, as well as your creativity. In essence, Level 5 is about developing and challenging your creative practice.

Summary of Programme

Duration: 45 weeks (full-time), 90 weeks (part-time) including vacation weeks

Expected hours: 34 hours/week (Full time = 20 hours tutor/mentor directed study,  14 hours independent study), 17 hours/week (Part time = 10 hours tutor/mentor directed study, 7 hours independent study)

Fees and term dates. 

Delivery: On-site, Distance Delivery (study from home) or Blended Learning (study from home and onsite).

Start Dates: Onsite students may start either at the beginning of Term 1 in February, or at the beginning of term 2, 3 or 4, Distance Delivery or Blended learning students may start on the 1st, 4th or 7th Monday during term time and at other times upon request. 

All students will need to work for nine weeks, and can then take a three-week break. Students must advise their mentor or Programme support of their decision for planning purposes.

Students whose enrolment crosses from one calendar year to the next will be required to resume independent study early in January. 

Entry Requirements

The qualification provides a pathway from the:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Creativity (Level 4)

  • New Zealand Certificate in Arts & Design (Level 4)

  • New Zealand Certificate in Fashion (Level 4)

  • New Zealand Certificate in Digital Media & Design (Level 4)

  • New Zealand Diploma in Ngā Toi (Level 4)

Students who have not completed at the previous programme level can apply for entry using TLC’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. (Note: acceptance via the RPL process is not automatic. Evidence presented must demonstrate sufficient ability at the required level).
