Creating Taonga
July 6th & 7th , 10am to 4pm
Join renowned artist Neke Moa for a connective weekend Masterclass where you'll learn traditional Māori practices, create beautiful adornments from natural materials, and deepen your connection to Te Taiao (the environment), wairua (spirituality), and atua (spirits & god).
Together we will create tāonga, using materials such as stone, bone, shell, wood, and fibre. This workshop is an opportunity to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future.
You will learn a range of unique and transferable skills such as hole making, cordage, binding, and other techniques, building skills for future projects and a deeper understanding of your own art practice.
Storytelling with Uku
July 8th 9th & 10th
Join us for an exciting clay workshop with Uku artist Stevei Houkāmau and explore the art of carving your own korero (stories) into Uku (clay).
In this special 3 Day workshop, you will hand build and shape unique kakano (seed) forms and explore techniques to mark, carve and embed your kakano with your own whakapapa (ancestory/ culture) and stories.
Stevei will also demonstrate her own carving techniques and will work alongside you to guide you to turn your kakano into a powerful wearable taonga.
