Drawing the Figure – Shading Techniques for the Body and Clothing | Term Four, 2024

Learn how to shade your figure drawing study to get a true and accurate representation of a three dimensional human form.
Having a strong grasp of how to draw the figure realistically, you can then choose to stylise it from a position of knowledge.
Starting from an understanding of the 3D form of the human figure we'll look at how to draw and accurately shade all parts - including eyes, hair, skin, lips etc.
A further focus will be on how to accurately draw and shade clothing – looking at different materials and how they drape over the figure.
Suitable for all levels.

Content

* Learn how to draw the figure with accurate shading, focusing on light and shade, and how this interacts with the figure
* Learn how to accurately draw eyes, hair, lips, skin, nails etc
* Learn how to draw a wide range of clothing types – how they fit around the figure
* Learn rendering techniques that will help you to draw common and exotic clothing material realistically

Objectives

* Develop your understanding of the full 3D form of the figure and how to depict this with shading
* Explore and recognise how different clothing material interacts and moves with the figure
* Learn how to render different clothing materials

Outcomes

* Improved observational drawing skills regarding the human figure
* Improved observational drawing skills with clothing and other fabrics, and how these interact with the figure
