Mixed Media Sculpture | Term Three, 2024

Wondering about sculpture as a way to express your ideas? Curiosity is the key!! Creative process the doorway.
Start with a basic idea and, with help from your tutor, learn processes and technical skills to extend your creative practice in your areas of interest.
Uncertain about where to start? No problem. Your tutor can help you to decide on a suitable project which will focus on the techniques you might want to explore.
Work with nil-cost found items, recycle /repurpose, explore assemblage, mobiles, wood or Oamaru stone, paper, glass, plastic....your choice of materials is wide open.
An ideal class for beginners or anyone wanting to branch out in a new 3D creative direction.

* Introductions and studio orientation
* Best practice guidelines
* Tutor help selecting a suitable sculptural project which uses your own ideas and skill set...using materials which you are curious about
* Individual and group discussions about processes, tips and tricks and information about other artists who are of relevance to your project ....as it unfolds
* Encouragement to observe what your fellow classmates are doing so that you consider other materials and sculptural processes which you may wish to explore in the future

Outcomes

* A deeper understanding of the materials you have chosen to work with and the most appropriate techniques / tools for altering or connecting similar or different materials
* A completed project or progression of a set of processes. (Note - some projects are complex and may require a longer time frame to complete)
* An extended creative practice which incorporates the processes and ideas you explore
* Exposure to other processes and materials which you may wish to explore in the future

  • Materials cost: $10 - Fixed class cost for consumables. Please bring a visual diary. The materials and tools you need will depend on your project and we will discuss these on the first day of class.

* Appropriate dust mask for students working with dry materials such as plaster, Oamaru stone
* Since you decide on the specific materials which you may wish to work with, some may need to be purchased elsewhere
