Qualifications
Our programmes are unique because they are based on ‘learning by doing’. The practice is the theory. We ‘draw out’ rather than ‘stuff in’. In conjunction with tutors, students develop briefs which connect with the ideas they choose to explore. Tutors provide assistance to meet technical needs and to develop an appropriate set of skills for each student.
We have created a distinctive approach which extends beyond the traditional limitations of ‘fine arts’ to help students understand how their creative process can be incorporated into all areas of their lives. Our programmes are underpinned by research into the nature and nurture of creativity.
Depending on the programme, students who complete receive either a level 4, 5, 6 or 7 New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) qualification. A Level 7 NZQA qualification is equivalent to the exit level of an undergraduate degree. NZQA ensures that New Zealand qualifications are reliable, robust and are recognised both nationally and internationally. Each level is based on the complexity of learning, with level 1 the least complex and level 10 the most; see NZQF levels. Each level has a designated credit value and qualification type.
Students begin with the Certificate programme which provides them with a structured introduction to art and creativity and advances to the Diploma of Art and Creativity (Hons). This is followed by the Diploma of Art and Creativity (Advanced) which takes students further into exploring their practice, preparing them for exhibition.
TLC has a long-term commitment to every student. This is sustained during and after programme graduation via TLC Xpress, our website and exhibitions.
