Distance Delivery

Students can study any of The Learning Connexion’s programmes from home, anywhere in the world.

To support Deaf and Hearing Impaired students The Learning Connexion provides DVDs with subtitles. With each DVD, TLC also supplies notes with examples of students’ work to further illustrate the creative processes and outcomes we are teaching.

Communication with tutors at TLC is easy. Our Deaf students work with their mentors in the way that suits them best such as email, post, fax,  phone and our online digital learning area, the Workroom, where students can upload images directly to TLC and communicate with other distance students.

Student Profile - Alesha Hudson

Distance Learner

Alesha Hudson began her programme at Certificate level, after discovering TLC through Deaf Aotearoa in Whangarei. She had been interested in art at high school and had worked as a draughtperson but wanted more. She was really excited about TLC¹s programmes and being able to access Deaf-friendly education as well being able to study part-time and from a distance.

Alesha found that exploring her creativity was enormously satisfying and very quickly gravitated to collage, mixed media and clay sculpture. She has been exhibiting her work in her local area as well as in Wellington, entering two wearable art works in Breaking the Sound Barrier - 2009. TLC¹s annual exhibition of Deaf student¹s work. Her goal was to explore her collage further and develop this into work that she could continue to exhibit in the future.

"The feedback from the tutors has been wonderful and made studying from a distance so easy. I also came on-site to do some short classes and really enjoyed meeting new people and sharing all their different approaches and concepts. I would really encourage people to try out the Certificate programme, even if they haven¹t done any art before. It¹s easy and fun and you can¹t imagine how fast time flies when you start working creatively."

Alesha has completed the final part of her Diploma of Art and Creativity (Honours) and is really proud to be able to show how successful Deaf people can really be.
