Mostly I like to paint and fabricate three dimensional mixed media sculptural work. Sometimes the painting is on the wall, at other times it creeps into the 3D work. What I do is often led by curiosity and experimentation, with new work and ideas arising from engaging with a variety of materials, objects and processes. My sculptural work can be large scale outdoor projects in durable materials such as wood and metal, or ‘in the round’ pieces using Oamaru stone, plaster and found objects. Anything else that has expressive potential is also in the mix.
As well as some of the more traditional materials and approaches I also enjoy working with the physical qualities of industrial materials and objects which have an inherent language which contributes to and often serves as the initial motivation in the work.
I like to work with a wide variety of processes to affect and manipulate the materials I choose to work with, exploiting their inherent properties. The evidence of these processes becoming integral to the meaning in the work.
